ESDU 79004 gives charts of forebody volume coefficient (ratio of forebody volume to that of the enclosing cylinder) and of wave drag for spherically blunted tangent ogives and paraboloids and modified ellipsoids in the Mach number range 0.7 to 1.05. The drag was obtained by integrating the surface pressure distribution, derived from a finite difference program for calculating inviscid transonic flow, to give a pressure drag that is assumed for these bodies at zero incidence to equal the wave drag. Computed pressure distribution data for a fineness ratio 2 forebody are compared with wind-tunnel measurements and found to agree closely.
