Specifies requirements for the testing, interpretation of test results, installation and certification of penetration sealing systems and control joints sealing systems in fire-separating elements of construction. The Standard is based on the testing of standard configurations and provides minimum requirements for these fire-stopping systems. It is intended to complement the fire-protection requirements of the Building Code of Australia and is to be read in conjunction with AS 1530.4. Methods for fire tests on building materials, components and structures – Part 4: Fire-resistance tests of elements of building construction. Specific sections cover basic design requirements, the determination of fire-resistance, the permissible variations from the tested prototype and the appraisal of the test results. A commentary which explains the concepts of the testing regime is included together with a suggested test method for evaluating the movement capability of fire-stopping control joint seals.
Scope
This Standard sets out requirements for the testing, interpretation of test results, installation and certification of sealing systems-
(a) around penetrations through separating building elements which are required to have a fire-resistance level or, if applicable, a resistance to the incipient spread of fire; and
(b) at control joints between building elements which are required to have a fire-resistance level.
NOTE: Explanatory notes and comment on the testing regime are included in Appendix A.
