To be read in conjunction with the requirements of the national telecommunications authority, as some criteria may be commonly required.

Scope

This Standard specifies the essential requirements and minimum standards for operation of the radiocommunications aspects of all radiocommunication transmitters and receivers used in cordless telephones operating in the 1.7/40 MHz, 30/39 MHz and 34/40 MHz frequency bands. It contains conditions and methods of test applicable to establish those requirements as well as some general requirements including equipment marking.
Cordless telephones consist of a base unit, which may be connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), and a portable unit (handset). Each unit contains a transmitter and receiver which are used for short-range communication between the base unit and portable unit.
This Standard does not address the requirements for the connection of this equipment to the PSTN or user safety requirements.
This Standard does not apply to-
telephones designed or intended to operate in a cellular mobile telephone service; or
cordless telephones designed or intended to operate on other frequencies not specified in this Standard.
