This standard applies to elastomer waterstops with and without steel straps for sealing against soil moisture, non-pressing or pressing liquid media and for sealing joints. Elastomer waterstops are embedded in concrete according to DIN 1045 during the production of joints in concrete components or structures made of waterproof concrete. This standard does not apply to waterstops made of other materials (e. g. TPE, blends with thermoplastics). This standard does not apply to the sealing of joints in pipes made of reinforced concrete or non-reinforced concrete. This standard provides information on the selection of different base polymers of elastomer waterstops which can be used for the following exposures: 1) waste water, 2) groundwater, 3) drinking water, 4) sea water, 5) de-icing agents, 6) fuels and oils, 7) fire, 8) low temperatures, 9) ozone exposure. This standard specifies the requirements for the material properties of elastomer waterstops for the above-mentioned exposures. The application standard DIN 18197 defines the planning, dimensioning, treatment, processing and installation of waterstops.
