Around the globe, outsourcing is increasingly an opportunity to add value, tap into a resource base and/or mitigate risk. The International Standard "Outsourcing" aims to provide general guidance for outsourcing for any organization or sector. It provides a vocabulary to enable outsourcing practitioners to harmonize the principles underlying the procedures in current and future industry-specific standards. It includes typical outsourcing concepts to improve the understanding of all parties involved, by providing a common set of practices that can be used to manage the outsourcing life cycle. The standard covers the main phases, processes and governance aspects of outsourcing, independent of sectors of industry and commerce. It is intended to provide a good foundation for enabling organizations to enter into, and continue to sustain, successful outsourcing arrangements throughout their agreed life. The standard focuses on: – encouraging good governance on outsourcing; – flexibility of outsourcing arrangements, accommodating changing business requirements; – managing risks involved with outsourcing; – enabling the fostering of sustainable business relationships.
