ESDU Struct 03.06.15 provides three sets of three graphs; each set of three graphs shows the variation around the circumference of the frame of a deflection due to an applied concentrated couple, a tangential load or a radial load. One set of three treats the radial displacement, another the angular displacement and the third the tangential displacement. The values of the displacements are appropriately non-dimensionalised using the applied loading, the frame radius, the shell thickness, the shear modulus of the shell material, and a length parameter representative of the frame spacing on either side of the chosen frame. A number of curves are presented, each for a particular value of the effective skin-frame stiffness ratio. That parameter, defined in the abstract for ESDU Struct 03.06.17, involves an effective frame spacing, the value of which may be found using ESDU Struct 03.06.17. The applied couple and loads are assumed to act in the plane of the frame and to be balanced by tangential shear forces in the shell due to displacement of the frame as a whole and its deformation from a circular shape. The assumptions made in deriving the graph are summarised in ESDU Struct 03.06.00. The data take into account the shear deflection in the skin between adjacent frames. For the case where the loading system is independent of the relative flexibility of the skin and frame, ESDU Struct 03.06.04 provides data on radial displacements. A worked example illustrates the use of the data.
