NFPA 1141 helps jurisdictions and landowners work together to safeguard lives and property in locations that pose unique fire protection challenges. Areas with inadequate water supply, inadequate fire department resources, extended fire department response time, or limited access and/or unusual terrain demand specialized strategies to protect people and property from fire dangers, and allow fire fighters to do their jobs safely and effectively. The 2017 edition of NFPA 1141: Standard for Fire Protection Infrastructure for Land Development in Wildland, Rural, and Suburban Areas provides the latest requirements to help AHJs, planners, developers, and code officials ensure every location has adequate fire protection and emergency services infrastructure, and to reduce the impact of land development and land use changes. The 2017 edition of NFPA 1141 spells out the roles of stakeholders and AHJs, and helps fire agencies prepare for fast response. Revisions clarify that the applicant for land use is responsible for providing documentation and maps to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for review. New Chapter 7: Premises Identification provides requirements that will assist responders in identifying residences in rural areas that are located far apart or secluded from view. Other changes clarify which NFPA® standard applies to certain water main and fire hydrant installations, based on property ownership. Revised definitions provide greater consistency across similar codes and standards. Improve community safety and emergency preparedness in areas that present unusual characteristics to responding fire agencies. Update to the latest edition of NFPA 1141.
