Revised for clarity and to help regulate the use of symbols, the 2021 edition of NFPA 170, Standard for Fire Safety and Emergency Symbols, presents uniform symbols used for fire safety, emergency, and associated hazards. NFPA 170 gives designers, engineers, architects, and emergency planners key informationā€”including the new symbol for dry hydrants and drafting ports. This standard provides symbology for emergency management mapping and for emergency evacuation diagrams and plans. The new symbol for dry hydrants and drafting ports illustrates the significant distinction between hydrants that are connected to a pressurized water system and hydrants connected to a static source of water.
