Unless they are properly protected, valuable and often irreplaceable business records can be destroyed ā even if they are stored in fire-resistive buildings. The 2022 edition of NFPA 232, Standard for the Protection of Records, presents the latest requirements for records protection equipment and facilities and for record-handling techniques that can be used to safeguard records in a variety of media forms from the hazards of fire. The 2022 edition of NFPA 232, Standard for the Protection of Records, includes several updates to help ensure engineers, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), facility managers, insurance companies, and manufacturers can keep up with the changing landscape. Changes in the newest edition include the following: Updates have been made to Table 4.1.1, Allowable Storage Environments, to reflect changes to the allowable storage requirements. The definition for Information Technology Equipment (ITE) has been updated to reflect changes in NFPA 70Ā®, National Electrical CodeĀ®. Chapter 2, Referenced Publications, and Annex F, Informational References, have been updated to align with revisions made in other documents. NFPA 232, Standard for the Protection of Records, includes provisions for numerous types of records to increase the chance that vital documents will be spared in the event of a fire.
