Mitigate roof deck fire hazards. Reliably determine the heat release rate of roofing assemblies with the test method presented in NFPA 276. Fires involving roof deck assemblies have resulted in significant losses and damage to buildings that had other fire protection systems in place. That’s why testing laboratories and manufacturers of construction and roofing materials need the latest edition of NFPA 276, Standard Method of Fire Test for Determining the Heat Release Rate of Roofing Assemblies with Combustible Above-Deck Roofing Components. NFPA 276 describes a method for determining the heat release rate from below the deck of roofing assemblies that have combustible above-deck roofing components when the assemblies are exposed to a fire from below the roof deck. The test method presented in NFPA 276 is based on the substitution method for measuring the heat release rate by using an auxiliary fuel (propane) to provide the surrogate heat. Requirements include instrumentation specification, and furnace verification and calibration. Provisions also address reporting of fire test results.
