Gauge the effectiveness of horizontal fire door assemblies in protecting openings from the spread of fire by using the test methods presented in the 2012 NFPA 288. NFPA 288: Standard Methods of Fire Tests of Horizontal Fire Door Assemblies Installed in Horizontal Fire Resistance-Rated Assemblies, 2012 Edition is a test procedure developed for use in evaluating the performance of horizontal floor fire door assemblies in fire resistance-rated horizontal assemblies. It provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with a way to measure the ability of the floor fire door assembly to remain in the opening and resist the passage of flame and heat with load carrying applications. The 2012 edition has been retitled to expand the use of the test Standard to roofs and remove the limit to floor fire door assemblies.
