INTRODUCTION

This Standard presents needed text changes to
ANSI/TIA/EIA-41-D to provide support of lower layer (i.e.
SS7 SCCP) segmentation and reassembly of ANSI-41 MAP
messages.

GENERAL

Segmentation is required when TIA/EIA-41 messages
exceed the maximum limits of SS7 signaling units. No hard limit can
be defined since it depends on the information present in the SCCP
called and calling party addresses (i.e. SSN, SPC and GT) and the
presence of SCCP optional parameters (for XUDT messages).

This document describes the enhancements to enable a wireless
system to determine whether lower layer message segmentation is
supported when communicating with another system. It is assumed
that the introduction of SCCP Issue 3 into the ANSI-41 signaling
network will be of a gradual, phased nature rather than a bulk
network upgrade.

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this document is to identify and describe needed
text changes to ANSI/TIA/EIA-41-D to provide support of
lower layer (i.e. SS7 SCCP) segmentation and reassembly of
ANSI-41MAP messages.
