1 Scope
1.1 These requirements cover control cabinets intended to be installed in sprinkler system piping protecting commercial cooking equipment, hoods, and plenums in accordance with the Standard for Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13. In the event of sprinkler or nozzle discharge in the cooking equipment protection area, the cabinet senses the water flow and interrupts the source of fuel to the cooking equipment by means of actuation of a solenoid valve, electric contactor, or the like.
1.2 The cabinet may contain optional features such as a supervised shut-off valve, water pressure and flow monitoring devices, and alarm components.
1.3 Pressure containing devices within the control cabinet shall have a minimum rated pressure of 175 psig (1200 kPa).
1.4 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this Outline of Investigation, and that involve a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this Outline of Investigation. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this Outline of Investigation cannot be judged to comply with this Outline of Investigation. Where considered appropriate, revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and implementation of this Outline of Investigation.
