1 Scope

1.1 These requirements cover steel welded outlet fittings intended for use in water based fire protection systems in accordance with the following installation standards:

a)    Standard for Low-, Medium-, and High-Expansion Foam, NFPA 11;

b)    Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13;

c)    Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes, NFPA 13D;

d)    Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Residential Occupancies Up to and Including Four Stories in Height, NFPA 13R;

e)    Standard for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems, NFPA 14;

f)    Standard for Water Spray Fixed Systems for Fire Protection, NFPA 15; and

g)    Standard for the Installation of Foam-Water Sprinkler and Foam-Water Spray Systems, NFPA 16;

1.2 Welded Outlet Fittings consist of steel outlets intended to be welded to steel run pipe in Schedules 10, 30, 40 and Listed steel sprinkler pipe having the same outside diameter as Schedule 40 pipe where:

a)    The outlet pipe having wall thickness the same as or less than the run pipe or

b)    The run pipe has a wall thickness equivalent to Schedule 10 steel pipe and the outlet wall thickness is equivalent to Schedule 40 steel pipe.

These fittings may be suitable for use with other Listed steel run pipe when intended for use with outlet wall thicknesses greater than the run pipe wall thickness, when evaluated as described in Bending Moment Test, Section 11.
