1 Scope
1.1 These requirements cover heat detecting circuit-interrupters (HDCI) intended for use in dehumidifiers, room air conditioners and other refrigeration equipment. They incorporate the functionality of a leakage current detector interrupter, and are intended to interrupt power to the protected device when any of the following conditions occur:
a) An overheating condition occurs where the HDCI temperature sensor is mounted in the end product, or
b) When leakage currents flowing from the conductors of the end product's power supply cord exceed a predetermined level, or
c) An open circuit occurs in one of the temperature sensor leads of the HDCI temperature sensor.
1.2 These devices have a maximum rating of 40 A, and are intended for use on circuits rated 250 Vac maximum.
1.3 These requirements are intended to be used with the requirements of the Standard for Arc-Fault Circuit-Interrupters, UL 1699 as these requirements modify and supplement the requirements of that Standard.
1.4 An HDCI that is also intended to perform other functions, such as overcurrent protection, ground-fault circuit-interruption, surge suppression, any other similar functions, or any combination thereof, shall comply additionally with the requirements of the applicable Standard(s) that cover devices that provide those functions.
