1 Scope
1.1 These requirements cover multi-conductor, nonintegrally jacketed or metal armored cable consisting of power units and control/signal/communication units. Each of the units is laid parallel to the next unit, or the jacketed units may be twisted under an overall jacket or metallic armor. The cable is intended for use with specific equipment and devices that are required to be powered and controlled from the same cable, such as (but not limited to) lighting and sound units in theaters, and ductless air conditioning systems.
The installation of this hybrid cable is intended to be in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, in addition to any applicable building codes.
1.2 The conductors for the power units in these cables are either unmarked, jacketed cables described in the NEC, or use insulated conductors described in the NEC. Jacketed cables used for both the power units and the control units are described in Sections 6 – 8.
Cables are marked with the temperature, voltage and other optional ratings.
Cables for direct burial are so marked.
Cables may be marked "sun res" or "sunlight resistant".
Cables that are marked "oil resistant II" have a jacket that is suitable for exposure to oil at temperatures not in excess of 75°C (167°F).
Cables that are marked "oil resistant I" have a jacket that is suitable for exposure to oil at temperatures not in excess of 60°C (140°F).
Each insulated conductor that is oil resistant II, oil resistant I, VW-1, gasoline-resistant, or has another individual conductor use is individually so marked.
