1 Scope
1.1 This Outline of Investigation covers requirements for the construction and performance, exclusive of performance during fire tests, of portable dry chemical fire extinguishers intended for use on residential cooking equipment. The requirements in the Standard for Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers, UL 299 apply to these extinguishers except that the requirements and tests contained herein supersede the Discharge Range Test, Discharge Duration Test, and specific criteria relative to Marking.
1.2 The requirements for performance during fire testing of these dry chemical fire extinguishers are specified in the Outline of Investigation for The Fire Test Method For Portable Hand-Held Extinguishers Intended For Use On Residential Cooking Equipment, 711A.
1.3 As used in these requirements, the term "extinguisher" refers to all extinguishers or any part thereof covered by these requirements, unless specifically noted otherwise.
1.4 These dry chemical fire extinguishers are intended to be utilized in accordance with the Special Purpose Residential Fire Extinguisher guidance provided in the Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers, ANSI/NFPA 10.
