Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
TAPPI 2015-08-27 4
]]>
This TIP covers considerations for weld repairing new suction roll shells. It has been shown that suction rolls fail in service due to a variety of causes, one of which may be a discontinuity that is produced when a new shell is weld repaired.

This TIP serves two functions: (1) to acquaint the industry with factors of weld repairs in suction roll shells that may influence the shell service life, and (2) to provide a means whereby repairs in individual shells may be documented and later compared with shell performance.

It is beyond the scope of this TIP to provide criteria for rejection of new shells based on the size or quantity of flaws. Further, this TIP does not describe limits or manufacturing parameters on weld repairs that may affect the serviceability of the roll. However, it is recommended that the matter of weld repairs be negotiated between the purchaser and supplier when a new shell is ordered, and it may be desirable to reference this TIP in the agreement. Welding performed on in-service suction roll shells in an attempt to repair handling damage and fatigue cracks is also excluded from this TIP.

Provides for the protection of persons from injury and illness and of property (including equipment) from damage by fire and other causes arising from welding and cutting. Provides basic safety requirements for all welding and cutting, regardless of the field of application, including construction work within the meaning of the Construction Act 1959. Specific provisions are included for gas welding, metal-arc welding, brazing and resistance welding but no attempt has been made to include particular hazards which may be inherent in special industries.

SAE USCAR 45:2018 ?u=/product/publishers/sae/sae-uscar-452018/ Wed, 06 Nov 2024 05:02:53 +0000 Performance Specification for Welded Wire-to-Wire Splices
Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
SAE 2018-06-14 22
]]>
SAE/USCAR-45 defines test methods and performance requirements for ultrasonically-welded wire-to-wire splices for automotive applications. Face-to-face, butt splice, and center strip configurations per Figure 1 can be tested. The tests defined in this specification subject samples on test to stresses that simulate a lifetime of exposure for a road vehicle. Stresses called out in this specification include thermal shock, temperature/humidity cycling and mechanical stress from different directions.

Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
SAE 2016-04-05 32
]]>
This specification defines test methods and performance criteria for evaluating ultrasonically welded wire-to-terminal metallurgical bonds. The examples used are specific to the linear weld type of process equipment. USCAR-38 is not applicable for “Splice Welding”. The specification is applicable to wire-on-pad configurations with a typical weld shown in Figure 1. This test specification subjects parts under test to environmental exposures to simulate a lifetime of field exposure for a road vehicle. Exposures called-out in this specification include Thermal Shock, Temperature Humidity Cycling and mechanical abuse. This test specification is intended to evaluate the strength and performance of the interface between wires to an electrical terminal. Validation of the performance of the Terminal is a separate task and can be accomplished using a component validation test such as SAE/USCAR-2, which evaluates whether the entire connection system is acceptable.
