This Standard is generally applicable to the tubes in the range of 15.9 mm to 101.6 mm in outside diameter.

In addition to the items specified in the main body, the items of supplementary quality requirements which the purchaser can specify upon agreement with the manufacturer are shown in Annex A.

This Standard principally covers the tubes of outside diameters in the range of 15.9 mm to 101.6 mm.

Annex A specifies the special quality requirements which the purchaser may designate, in addition to those specified in the text, upon the prior agreement with the manufacturer.

The surface design given in this Standard:

– produces consistent levels of tyre/road sound emission under a wide range of operating conditions including those appropriate to vehicle sound testing;

– minimizes inter-site variation;

– provides minor absorption of the vehicle sound sources;

– is consistent with road-building practice.

NOTE 1 For the purposes of this Standard, the terms noise and sound are used interchangeably.
