]]>
Tropospheric ozone (O3) is an important constituent of photochemical smog. Besides its harmful effect on human health, it is currently considered to be the most significant phytotoxic pollutant of the atmosphere. Recently, two types of approaches are available for assessing (O3) risk to vegetation: one is based on the exposure concentration and can theoretically be applied to all species of the plant kingdom and a second approach is based on the cumulative stomatal (O3) uptake. This applies to all stomatous target plants, and thus comprises all higher taxa of the plant kingdom, especially vascular plants. The standard reflects the current scientific knowledge, describes and defines critical levels for (O3) for crops, species-rich grassland, and forests, and derives target values using prediction intervals. Wheat, grassland species such as red clover or harebell, and beech are considered as (O3) sensitive representatives for the mentioned vegetation types. The risk assessment is based on the estimation of stomatal (O3) uptake using receptor-specific deposition models together with dose-response relationships established for the relevant effect indicators.

Scope

This Technical Report is designed to be used in conjunction with ISO 14001 and ISO 14004. It provides a link between the management system approach of ISO 14001 and the range of forest policy and forest management performance objectives, including SFM principles and intergovernmental Criteria & Indicators, that a forestry organization can consider. It also provides references to the ISO 14000 series of International Standards, application of forestry laws and regulations, and the other matters that a forestry organization can take into consideration as it implements an environmental management system.

This Technical Report, like ISO 14001, does not propose any forestry-specific requirements. Its content is not normative in any sense, but is intended to be informative. Moreover, it does not establish performance levels for forest management. This Technical Report therefore cannot form the basis for environmental performance claims and does not create a product label.

This Handbook provides guidance on the use of the ISO 14000 Standards in the forestry industry with particular emphasis on sustainable forestry management. It provides an extensive list of technical references, conventions and policies on sustainable forestry management, and includes a number of case studies. The Handbook does not establish performance levels for forestry nor does it represent Standard Australia's stance on any of the issues discussed. This Handbook is identical to ISO TR 14061.

Sets out the key the technical and scientific aspects that underpin an accounting system for carbon sequestered from the atmosphere as a result of afforestation or reforestation. The requirements may be applied to forestry projects undertaken for the purposes of trading or reporting carbon removals within a greenhouse gas abatement program and are sufficiently flexible to be applied to a range of different programs using either Kyoto Protocol-compliant rules or other rules.

Scope

This Standard sets out the process for estimating and reporting greenhouse gas removals and emissions from forest projects over a set period of time as a result of afforestation and reforestation activities.
The Standard is intended to facilitate the consistent estimation and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals from forest projects, and the verification of estimation and reporting processes
Future Parts of the AS 4978 series may address emissions and removals from forest projects as a result of activities other than afforestation and reforestation.

Australian Standard AS 4707 sets requirements for the chain of custody of forest products marketed with claims about certification under the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS). Products with the AFS certification claim and/or label deliver confidence to customers and consumers that the raw material originates in sustainably managed forests, recycled material, and controlled sources. AFS certification also covers health, safety and labour related requirements. “AFS Controlled Sources” addresses the risk of using products from controversial sources, including legality aspects. Purchasers and potential purchasers can use this information to choose the product based on sustainability and other considerations. The aim of communicating the raw material’s origin is to encourage demand for and supply of products originating in sustainably managed forests, thereby stimulating market-driven continuous improvement of management of Australia’s forests.

BSI PAS 85:2000 ?u=/product/publishers/bsi/bsi-pas-852000/ Sat, 19 Oct 2024 23:48:09 +0000 A quality management system to ensure the integrity and traceability of primary products in the agri-food chain
Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
BSI 2000 18
]]>
This PAS specifies requirements for a quality management system to enable an organization to ensure the integrity and traceability of primary products in the agri-food chain in order to assure food organizations of the provenance of food raw materials used in their operations. It applies to those food safety and quality issues or production aspects over which the organization wishes to demonstrate effective control. It does not itself state specific production performance criteria or product attributes.

This PAS is applicable to any organization that wishes to:

 • implement and maintain a product integrity management system;

 • assure itself of its conformance with its stated policy;

 • demonstrate such conformance to others.

This PAS is applicable to any aspect of the production or condition of primary products over which the organization wishes to demonstrate effective control, including for example one or more of the following items: food safety issues, food quality attributes, contaminants, genetically modified organisms, organic or other production practices, ethical and/or religious issues, animal welfare and geographical origin.

This PAS covers all agri-food sector activities, including base input suppliers (for example, seeds or animals and crop nutrients or animal feedstuffs) primary production (for example, crop and animal husbandry on farms and grower’s holdings) storage sites and other primary product handling, treatment or preparation facilities.

NOTE 1 All the requirements of this PAS are intended to be incorporated into any product integrity management system. The extent of the application will depend on factors such as the nature of the production activities and the nature and size of the organization.

NOTE 2 The extent of the application of this PAS needs to be clearly defined by careful identification of the issue(s) over which the organization wishes to demonstrate effective control, including for example the codes of practice and industry guidelines to which the organization subscribes.

Provides a unifying integrated system to assure primary product integrity in the agri-food chain. To be use in conjunction with specific performance criteria and/or product attributes over which the organization wishes to demonstrate effective control.
