This Standard specifies requirements for whiteheart malleable cast iron, blackheart malleable cast iron and pearlitic malleable cast iron, used in the manufacture of castings.

Classification is given for each type of malleable cast iron on the basis of mechanical properties.

This Standard is applicable only to malleable cast iron cast into sand moulds or moulds of comparable thermal diffusivity.

NOTE The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 5922: 2005 Malleable cast iron (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/ IEC Guide 21-1.

This Standard specifies austenitic iron castings (hereafter referred to as "castings").

This Standard specifies the grades of castings in terms of the following a) to c).

a) Graphite form and matrix structure (including either flake or spheroidal graphite in an austenitic matrix)

b) Chemical composition as given for each of the grades

c) Mechanical properties obtained from separately cast samples

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows:

ISO 2892: 2007 Austenitic cast irons-Classification (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.

This Standard specifies decomposition with phosphoric and sulfuric acids among determinations of tungsten in steel using ICP atomic emission spectrometric method.

This method is applicable to determination of tungsten content rate (mass fraction) of 10.0 % or over to and including 20.0 % in steel.

However, it is not applicable to steels containing one or more coexisting components with content rate [mass fraction (%)] over the upper limits specified

This Standard specifies ICP atomic emission spectrometric method using decomposition with acids and fusion with sodium carbonate to determine the content rate of 14 components specified in steel.

This method applies to the determination of each component within the range specified, however, it is not applicable to steels when they contain one or more components of content rate over the maximum limit of determination specified .

In the case of arsenic, this method is not applicable to steels of iron content rate under 90 % (mass fraction).
