Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
SNZ 2020-02-23 64
]]>
Objective is to provide a core resource for building consent authorities determining compliance with the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) and has given guidance to designers, builders, owner-builders and others involved in the construction of successful earth walled buildings in New Zealand, and elsewhere around the world. There has been no failure reported to date of any earth building built in accordance with this suite of standards. Earth walled construction continues to be relevant at a time when the sustainability and decarbonising of the built environment is under scrutiny. Earthen materials are minimally processed, have low toxicity, and are available locally. This will encourage and enable the uptake of local earthen materials with very low embodied energy within a decarbonising building industry. The revised standard continues to be a core resource and reflect advances in earth building practice, research, changes in referenced standards, and changes in building legislation: the Building Act 2004 and the New Zealand Building Code.

Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
SNZ 1991-05-08 20
]]>
Deals with the special features and precautions to be incorporated in the design of a multi-storey building having an internal courtyard under a space (atrium) which extends upwards for several floors but is not open at the top. The object is to ensure safety of life in the event of a fire in any area which opens on to the atrium space. The Code is supplementary to the basic building code fire protection requirements. It deals with the protection of escape routes, detection and extraction of smoke, use of sprinkler systems, warning systems, emergency electricity supply and other requirements according to type of occupancy.

The second aim is to reduce the risk of damage to building contents. This standard provides the basis for the design for restraints and provides sketches of many simple, practical details for a range of common items including computer equipment, storage racks, cabinets, ornaments, appliances etc. It is applicable to items which are required to survive an earthquake to be available to rescue and recovery services to businesses and general public. Applies only to items less than 300 kg in weight.
