The requirements contained in this Standard should be applied to products in consideration of and in line with their type and use condition (e.g. use in public place).

Spoken instructions covered by this Standard are generated either by recording and editing human voice, or creating synthetic voice from text.

This Standard is not applicable to spoken instructions or broadcasting subject to stipulation of laws and regulations, such as an evacuation instruction in fire alarms, or those provided in equipment limited for special purposes, such as equipment for facilities, or equipment for commercial or professional purposes.

This Standard covers auditory signals used in conjunction with spoken instructions.

NOTE For general requirements for auditory signals, refer to JIS S 0013.

The intended users of the assessment results based on this Standard include consumers who use the consumer products, distributors who mediate the purchase of or directly purchase the consumer products, designers or operators of lodging facilities, houses or care facilities for older persons, and persons involved in public procurement.

It is not applicable to products for facility use, commercial use or professional use.

It is intended to be applied as appropriate to such products depending on the product type and its conditions of use.

It is applicable to auditory signals of a fixed frequency used in general applications (also called "beep sound"), but not to variable frequency or melodic sounds.

It does not specify fire or gas leak alarm sounds or crime prevention alarm sounds (determined by other laws and regulation), electronic chimes, voice guides or other sounds particular to communication instruments such as telephones; nor is it applicable to auditory danger signals for public or work areas (covered in ISO 7731, ISO 8201 and ISO 11429).

It is not applicable to machines and equipment used for professional work; nor does it specify the sound pressure levels of auditory signals form the consumer products.
