This publication, CEMA Standard No. 601 “Overhead Trolley Chain Conveyors” was established in 1985 and represents a consensus of trolley conveyor manufacturers. This committee established dimensions for x348, x458, and x678 rivetless chains, vertical and horizontal bolt trolleys, trolley attachments, roller turn rollers, roller turns, and traction wheel turns.

In 2021 the Conveyor Chain and Sprocket Section updated the standard. Following are some of the updates:

  • Section I – Introduction – Updates to Overhead Monorail Conveyor, Horizontal Manual Push Monorail, Continuous Powered (chain/cable) Monorail, Power and Free, Electrified Monorail, Specific Safety Standards, and Guarding.
  • Section II – Definitions for Trolley Chain Conveyors – Updates of definitions.
  • Section III – Conveyor Components – Imperial / Metric were updated in some charts.
  • Section IV – Design Procedure and Engineering Data – Updates to design steps ‘D’,’H,I, K’, ‘N, Table 1’, ‘Q’, Conveyor Drives, and Table 2.
  • Section V – Vertical Curve Data – No changes
  • Section VI – Troubleshooting Lubrication Guide and Inspection Checklist – Update to Table 9, Note 2; Equipment Maintenance Services, and Checklist for Trolley Conveyor Systems.

In 1998 the edition added technical data for expanded belt widths on CEMA C, D, and E Rollers and Returns. Tables all were reformatted for better access.

In 2001 the edition additions were made to technical data for CEMA C, D, and E Picking Idlers, Live Shaft Idler Dimensions and Load Capacities for Rubber Disc and Steel Tube Designs and modifications to: Idler Selection Procedures to include Impact Idler Selection.

In 2004 the edition was reformatted for tables for CEMA B, C, D, and E Troughing Idlers, Picking Idlers, and Return Idlers for easier reference. The Idler Diagrams were redrawn to conform to the revised tables; added CEMA Class F Idlers; reformatted and consolidated CEMA Load Ratings, and Capacities Tables.

In 2016 the editions Members of the Idler Committee added: Metric Vales to all tables; CEMA Roll Run-Out (TIR) Standard; Metric Idler Selection Example; and International Standards Comparison.

In 2019 the edition revision was to the CEMA G Idler Dimensions that were adjusted to consider the dimensions of the CEMA F Idlers (this adjustment occurred due to values that were less than those associated with the CEMA F Idlers).

Sixth in the series pertaining to unit handling conveyors, it establishes recommended minimum standards for use in manufacturing and applying lineshaft live roll conveyors.

Conveyors with rollers powered by drive belts from a rotating shaft used to move unit loads of varying sizes and shapes. The path is usually level, however slight inclines or declines are permitted depending upon the unit load being handled, the belt tension and the drive friction between the drive belt, spool and rotating lineshaft.

The purpose of this document is to establish nomenclature and application guidelines for use in manufacturing and applying lineshaft driven live roller conveyor.
