Help provide electrical safety and compliance with the 2019 California Electrical Code based on the 2017 edition of the National Electrical Code® (NEC®). The 2019 California Electrical Code, California Code of Regulations Title 24, Part 3 is based on the 2017 edition of NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code® (NEC®)—the widely used Code containing requirements for electrical wiring, overcurrent protection, grounding, and installation. Updated every three years to incorporate California amendments, the purpose of the California Electrical Code is to help safeguard persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity. Provisions cover the installation of electrical conductors, equipment, and raceways; signaling and communications conductors, equipment, and raceways; and optical fiber cables and raceways. In addition to new and revised articles addressing renewable energy, the California Electrical Code enhances personnel protection with expanded GFCI protection, new requirements to protect electrical workers while maintaining or servicing electrical or electrically powered equipment, and alternative methods for performing load calculations. This edition includes the full text of the 2017 edition of the NEC, annotated with California amendments. Matrix incorporation tables show you which state agencies have incorporated and/or amended given sections of the NEC for applications within their respective authorities. Symbols indicate the status of changes to the NEC: “[SFM]” identifies which State agency(s), by its acronym, has amended a section of the Code. Other symbols indicate where a California amendment has been made to the Code, where a change has been made to a California amendment, or where California language has been deleted. Throughout the NEC, changes other than editorial are indicated with gray shading within sections. An entire figure caption with gray shading indicates a change to an existing figure. New sections, tables, and figures are indicated by a bold, italic N in a gray box to the left of the new material. An N next to an Article title indicates that the entire Article is new. Where one or more complete paragraphs have been deleted, the deletion is indicated by a bullet (•) between the paragraphs that remain. Stay up to code and in compliance with the 2019 California Electrical Code.
