This British Standard specifies requirements for the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, testing, maintenance and dismantling of new permanently installed electrically powered homelifts with the following characteristics:<\/p>\n

    travelling vertically between two predefined levels along a guided path where the inclination to the vertical does not exceed 15\u00b0;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    supported or sustained by wire rope or chains, hydraulic cylinder (direct or indirect), screw and nut;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    penetrating a single floor;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    affixed to a building structure;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  5. \n

    where the carrier is partially enclosed;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  6. \n

    having a speed not greater than 0.15 m\/s.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This British Standard is applicable to homelifts that are installed in private dwellings and are intended for the transport of persons with impaired mobility, standing or seated, with or without a wheelchair.<\/p>\n
