Different measuring ranges of small\u2011scale sealed tube methods can be required.<\/p>\n<p>The measuring ranges can vary depending on the type of small\u2011scale sealed tube method of different manufacturers. Concentrations even slightly higher than the upper limit indicated in the manufacturers manual relating to the small\u2011scale sealed tube methods used, cannot be reported as accurate results. Appropriate preliminary dilution of the sample shall be performed or a small\u2011scale sealed tube method with a different application measuring range shall be used.<\/p>\n<p>All small\u2011scale sealed tube methods are based on a heated alkaline potassium persulfate oxidation in a heating block. Different digestion temperatures, 100&nbsp;\u00b0C or 120&nbsp;\u00b0C or 170&nbsp;\u00b0C, and different digestion times maybe applicable. Dimethylphenol colour reactions are applied, depending on the typical operating procedure of the small\u2011scale sealed tube used, see <span class=\"xref\">Clause&nbsp;8<\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"non-normative-note\">\n<div class=\"note-label\">\n  NOTE\n <\/div>\n<p>The notation TN<sub>b<\/sub> is often reported by International Standards and represents &#8220;total bound nitrogen&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><b>BS ISO 23697-1.
