Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.1<\/span> This test method covers the measurement of dynamic viscosity and derivation of kinematic viscosity of liquids, such as new and in-service lubricating oils, by means of an oscillating piston viscometer.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.2<\/span> This test method is applicable to Newtonian and non-Newtonian liquids; however the precision statement was developed using Newtonian liquids.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.3<\/span> The range of dynamic viscosity covered by this test method is from 0.2\u2009mPa\u00b7s to 20\u2009000\u2009mPa\u00b7s (which is approximately the kinematic viscosity range of 0.2\u2009mm2<\/sup>\/s to 22\u2009000\u2009mm2<\/sup>\/s for new oils) in the temperature range between \u201340\u2009\u00b0C to 190\u2009\u00b0C; however the precision has been determined only for new and used oils in the range of 34\u2009mPa\u00b7s to 1150\u2009mPa\u00b7s at 40\u2009\u00b0C, 5.7\u2009mPa\u00b7s to 131\u2009mPa\u00b7s at 100\u2009\u00b0C, and 46.5\u2009mm2<\/sup>\/s to 436\u2009mm2<\/sup>\/s at 40\u2009\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.4<\/span> The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
