Preface<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This is the sixth edition of CSA Z76.1, Reclosable child-resistant packages.<\/em> It supersedes the previous editions published in 2016, 2006, 1999, 1990, and 1979.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard is restricted to reclosable packages. The Standard does not include packages with a non- child-resistant mode.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This edition includes the following changes:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

a) general updates (e.g., references, terminology, and figures);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

b) updated child test result recording requirements;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

c) revision to the child-resistant testing site location requirements; and<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

d) removal of the communication to the children allowing the use of teeth during child-resistant testing.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1.1 General<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard applies to packages for consumer products available in liquid or solid form that incorporate reclosable child-resistant features that restrict children\u2019s ability to gain access to the contents of the packages. Such packages include (but are not limited to) packages with a continuous- thread, lug-finish, or snap closure.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1.2 Requirements<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard includes requirements for the construction, performance, and marking of child-resistant packages, and for the instructions to be provided with such packages.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1.3 Testing<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard specifies the minimum level of physical tests for ensuring that subsequent production lots comply with this Standard, including<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

a) child-resistant effectiveness test;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

b) senior-adult-use effectiveness test; and<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

c) senior-adult reclosing test.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1.4 Nonreclosable child-resistant packages<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard does not apply to nonreclosable child-resistant packages or features.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

1.5 Terminology<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In this Standard, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.<\/p>\n
