Most Items employ this Common Data standard. There is an<br \/>\non-going programme to enable every relevant program to read and<br \/>\nwrite such data files.<\/p>\n<p>This standard file specification enables computer programs from<br \/>\nthe ESDU Aircraft Noise Series to be run successively, that is, the<br \/>\noutput from one program can be used as an input for another.<\/p>\n<p>At other times, the user may wish to combine spectral levels<br \/>\ncontained in Common Data Files that have been generated by<br \/>\ndifferent programs. This Item facilitates the combination of<br \/>\nspectral levels.<\/p>\n<p>Spectra at any given location can be added or subtracted either<br \/>\non a logarithmic or an arithmetic basis. Aircraft or engine noise<br \/>\nis usually predicted by calculating the noise produced from more<br \/>\nthan one source and then adding the individual source noise<br \/>\npredictions together. The addition of such spectra must be<br \/>\nperformed on an energy, i.e. logarithmic, basis.
