This<br \/>\nstandard establishes a primary radiation dose criterion and derived<br \/>\nscreening levels for surface and volume radioactivity for groups of<br \/>\nradionuclides.<\/p>\n<p>The following are not included in the scope of this<br \/>\nstandard:<\/p>\n<p>1. naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) in bulk;<\/p>\n<p>2. radioactive materials in or on persons, including 40K in the<br \/>\nbody;<\/p>\n<p>3. release of a licensed or regulated site or facility;<\/p>\n<p>4. radioactive materials on or in foodstuffs;<\/p>\n<p>5. release of land or soil intended for agricultural<br \/>\npurposes;<\/p>\n<p>6. clearance issues related to national defense or security;<\/p>\n<p>7. process gases and liquids, including those discharged in<br \/>\naccordance with federal or state license requirements;<\/p>\n<p>8. radioactive material in transport in accordance with<br \/>\nDepartment of Transportation, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission<br \/>\n(USNRC), or U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations; and<\/p>\n<p>9. radioactive materials at concentrations or quantities<br \/>\ngoverned by regulations or exemption or exclusion.<\/p>\n<p>This clearance standard is not intended as a substitute for<br \/>\nradiological criteria for decommissioning or for intervention<br \/>\ncriteria during cleanup projects.
