This Standard covers mechanical, electrical and flammability
\nrequirements for thermoplastic insulated and jacketed, copper
\nconductor, inside wiring cables intended primarily for general
\npurpose communication applications in telephone company central
\noffices or on consumer premises in non-LAN (Local Area Network)
\napplications. <\/p>\n
Material, construction, performance and flammability
\nrequirements are included in the Standard, together with applicable
\ntest procedures. <\/p>\n
All designs covered by this Standard are for indoor use only.
\nProducts covered by this Standard are intended only for operation
\nwith voltages and currents normally found in communication systems.
\nTypically, these cables are installed in exposed areas, e.g.,
\nsurface mounted on cable racks and in concealed areas, e.g., within
\nraceways. <\/p>\n
The inside wiring cables covered by this Standard are intended
\nfor voice, text, data, video, and image transmission with
\ntransmission characteristics specified for frequencies up to 16
\nMHz. These cables have a minimum transmission performance of
\nCategory 3 except for those parameters that are gauge dependent
\n(attenuation, dc resistance). <\/p>\n
This Standard is arranged in Sections covering specific areas of
\ncable requirements and may be referenced as complete Sections or
\nindividual paragraphs <\/p>\n
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Standard is to establish generic
\ntechnical requirements that may be referenced by individual
\ntelecommunications cable specifications covering thermoplastic
\ninsulated and jacketed inside wiring products intended for normal
\nindoor premises use in the wiring systems of communication users.
\nThe parameters covered provide material, construction, performance
\nrequirements, and test procedures. <\/p>\n
Because this Standard does not cover all details of individual
\ncable designs, it cannot be,used as a single document for
\nprocurement of product. This Standard is intended to be used in
\nconjunction with an individual product specification that provides
\ncomplete design details for the specific cable types and designates
\nthe applicable performance requirements. Such individual product
\nspecifications may be prepared either by the user or the
\nmanufacturer. The procurement specification is left to the
