This Standard covers mechanical, electrical and flammability
\nrequirements for thermoplastic insulated and jacketed, copper
\nconductor, individually unshielded twisted pair indoor cables, with
\nor without an overall shield, intended primarily for use as
\nhorizontal cables, backbone cables, or patch cordage. Depending
\nupon the application and system requirements, this Standard
\nprovides choices for materials, transmission characteristics and
\nflammability ratings. <\/p>\n
This Standard covers the minimum transmission performance
\nrequirements for the following three Categories of cable based on
\nexisting system requirements and projected application needs.
\nMulti-pair cables, conforming to the generic designation, ARxM, are
\nnot covered by this specification. See instead, ICEA S-103-701. <\/p>\n
Category 3: Intended for voice, text, data, video and image
\ntransmission with transmission characteristics specified for
\nfrequencies up to 16 MHz. <\/p>\n
Category 5: Intended for voice, text, data, video and image
\ntransmission: i: <\/p>\n
Category 5: transmission characteristics specified for
\nfrequencies up to 100 MHz. ii: <\/p>\n
Category 5e: enhanced transmission characteristics specified for
\nfrequencies up to 100 MHz. <\/p>\n
PURPOSE: This Standard establishes generic technical
\nrequirements that may be referenced by individual
\ntelecommunications cable specifications covering products intended
\nfor normal indoor premises use in the wiring systems of
\ncommunications users. The parameters covered provide material,
\nconstruction, and performance requirements. <\/p>\n
Because this Standard does not cover all details of individual
\ncable design, it cannot be used as a single document for
\nprocurement of product. This Standard is intended for use in
\nconjunction with an individual product specification that provides
\ncomplete design details for the specific cable type and designates
\nthe applicable performance requirements. Such individual cable
\nspecifications may be prepared either by the user or the
\nmanufacturer. The specification designated for procurement is at
