This Standard specifies a method for the determination of solvent extractable material from carbon black which is used for the rubber compounding ingredients (hereafter referred to as the "carbon black") among secondary characteristics thereof.

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 6209 : 2009 Rubber compounding ingredients – Carbon black – Determina tion of solven t-extractable ma terial (MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEC Guide 21-1.

Warning Persons using this Standard should be familiar with normal laboratory practice.

This Standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use.

It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate safety and health practices.

The content of solvent extractable material is used for the indication of the amount of unreacted fats and oils adhered on the carbon black, which may contain polycyclic aromatic compounds, some of which are known carcinogens.

These compounds, when present, are so strongly bound to the carbon black that they are biologically inactive, but they may be removed by the procedure specified in this Standard.

Care should be taken to avoid skin contact with solvent extracts from carbon blacks.
