This document lists a series of conformance tests for the Common
\nAir Interface, defined in reference [2]. These tests are intended
\nto assure that equipment actually conforms to the formats specified
\nin the Common Air Interface. The object of the conformance tests is
\nto assure that equipment may be interoperable with other equipment
\nconforming to the standard. These tests are different and distinct
\nfrom performance tests, given in reference [5], which measure the
\nactual limits of equipment performance. The performance and
\nconformance tests are mutually complementary. These tests are also
\ndifferent and distinct from lock down tests, which are intended to
\ndemonstrate interoperability between different radios. These
\nconformance tests are intended to precede lock down tests.<\/p>\n
These tests are generally intended to be applied by a
\nmanufacturer to a product implementation to verify that it conforms
\nto the Common Air Interface. These tests only apply to radio
\nproducts, particularly portable and mobile radios and base stations
\nor repeaters. Some of the tests are designed to apply to
\ntransmitters, by specifying the transmit signal under a
\nrepresentative set of transmitter conditions. Other tests are
\ndesigned to apply to receivers, by defining a standard test signal,
\nand then specifying the minimum response of the receiver to the
\ntest signal.<\/p>\n
The specific test cases for the transmitter tests are selected
\nto exercise the encoders for the various codes used in the Common
\nAir Interface. In general the transmitter tests can be applied to a
\nreceiver by exciting the receiver with the test signals and then
\nmeasuring the receiver's response. The required response of the
\nreceiver to the transmitter test signals in not defined in this
\ndocument, but it may be inferred from the information content of
\nthe test signal, the conditions of the test signal, and the
\noperating characteristics of the receiver. The specific test cases
\nand conditions for the receiver tests are selected to exercise the
