The scope of<br \/>\nthis standard includes the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Descriptions of the specified functional capabilities that<br \/>\nprovide wireless telecommunications services across the A1<br \/>\ninterface as defined in the TR45 Network Reference Model;<\/li>\n<li>Descriptions of the division of responsibility of the functions<br \/>\nprovided between the BS and the MSC, without prescribing specific<br \/>\nimplementations;<\/li>\n<li>Descriptions of the A1 interface standard that support DS-41<br \/>\n[7] and cdma2000 <sup>\u00ae1<\/sup> systems.<\/li>\n<li>Descriptions of the specified functional capabilities that<br \/>\nprovide circuit services across the packet transport based MSCe-BS<br \/>\n(A1p) and MGW-BS (A2p) interfaces as defined in the Network<br \/>\nReference Model shown in [27]. It should be noted that, for a given<br \/>\ncall, the transcoder may or may not be in the MGW or BS. This<br \/>\nprotocol definition is not limited by the location or existence of<br \/>\nthe transcoder in the bearer path.<\/li>\n<li>Descriptions of the division of responsibility of the functions<br \/>\nprovided between the BS and the MSCe and MGW without prescribing<br \/>\nspecific implementations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this document is to provide a standard for<br \/>\ninterfacing a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) with one or more Base<br \/>\nStations (BSs). In addition, this standard provides for interfacing<br \/>\na Mobile Switching Center Emulation (MSCe) and a Media Gateway<br \/>\n(MGW) to one or more BSs. This document defines the functional<br \/>\ncapabilities, including services and features, of the specified<br \/>\ninterface. These services and features are the defining<br \/>\ncharacteristics that are the basis for the overall system<br \/>\nstandard.<\/p>\n<p><sup>1<\/sup> cdma2000<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> is the trademark for the<br \/>\ntechnical nomenclature for certain specifications and standards of<br \/>\nthe Organizational Partners (OPs) of 3GPP2.
