Description

Specifies criteria for the selection of extinguishers based on classification and rating, including requirements for location and distribution of extinguishants based on classification and rating, and the potential hazard classification. This Standard also includes a Section on the selection and location of fire blankets manufactured to the requirements of AS 3504. A selection chart for fire extinguishers and a guide to the selection of an extinguishant are included in the Appendices.

Scope

This Standard sets out criteria for the selection of portable fire extinguishers and specifies requirements for their application, location and distribution. It includes a section which sets out criteria for the selection of fire blankets and specifies requirements for their location and distribution.
NOTES:
1 Certain statutory regulations require extinguishers of a specific size and type to be carried on vehicles, caravans and boats.
2 A portable fire extinguisher and a fire blanket are generally referred to respectively as 'an extinguisher' or 'the extinguisher' and 'a blanket' or 'the blanket' in this Standard.
