ESDU 79002 is one of a group of five dealing with this topic. It uses the methods of ESDU 78027 to 78029 to predict the upper and lower bounds on the likely temperature rise in three practical engineering problems chosen both to illustrate the application of the methods and to show some of the complications that can arise. The method used involves a formal networking procedure for combining the various heat paths through an assembly that dissipate heat; the rules for their combination are specified in ESDU 78028. A flowchart in ESDU 79002 assists the user in calculating the network parameters and in the reduction of the network to obtain the thermal resistance of the assembly.
