The procedure corrects firstly for the<br \/>\ninfluence of any stress raiser in the test specimen, including any<br \/>\nplasticity effects, and then constructs a zero mean stress<br \/>\n(although any value could be used) S \u2013 <i>N<\/i> curve. That S \u2013<br \/>\n<i>N<\/i> curve is then finally corrected for any relative size<br \/>\ndifferences between the test specimen and the required component to<br \/>\nwhich the constructed curve is to be applied. A comprehensive<br \/>\nworked example illustrates the use of the method.
