This document gives the safety requirements and measures for edge banding machines fed by chains or belts, with manual loading and unloading and maximum workpiece height capacity of 100\u00a0mm, capable of continuous production use, hereinafter referred as \u201cmachines\u201d.<\/p>\n
It deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events, listed in Annex\u00a0A, relevant to the machines, when operated, adjusted and maintained as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer; reasonably foreseeable misuse has been considered too. Also, transport, assembly, dismantling, disabling and scrapping phases are taken into account.<\/p>\n
The machines are designed to process in one pass one end (single-end machine) or both ends (double-end machine) of panels of:<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 materials with similar physical characteristics to wood (see ISO\u00a019085-1:2021, 3.2), even with a core sheet of aluminium light alloy;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 gypsum plaster boards.<\/p>\n
Edges to be applied by the machine can be made of:<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 paper;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 melamine;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 plastic;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 composite materials;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 aluminium;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 light alloy;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 veneer;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 solid wood.<\/p>\n
It is also applicable to machines fitted with one or more of the following devices\/working units, whose hazards have been dealt with:<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 hot air banding unit;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 laser banding unit;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 infrared banding unit;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 dynamic processing units;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 sanding belt units;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 milling unit installed out of the integral enclosure at the panel side on single-end machines;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 milling unit installed out of the integral enclosure between machines halves of double-end machines;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 additional fixed or movable workpiece support along the feed;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 additional infeed workpiece support;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 additional outfeed workpiece support;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 in-feed device for transversal loading of panels in single-end machines;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 intermediate workpiece support in double-end machines;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 automatic panel returner in single-end machines;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 automatic tool changing;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 quick tool changing system;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 automatic multiple edges infeed device;<\/p>\n
\u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 workpiece heaters.<\/p>\n
This document does not deal with any hazards relating to:<\/p>\n
a)\u00a0 \u00a0systems for loading and unloading of the workpiece to a single machine other than automatic panel returner and infeed and outfeed workpiece supports (e.g. robots);<\/p>\n
b)\u00a0 \u00a0the combination of a single machine being used with other machines (as part of a line);<\/p>\n
c)\u00a0 \u00a0workpiece dividing unit installed out of the integral enclosure and\/or whose tools protrude out of the integral enclosure;<\/p>\n
d)\u00a0 \u00a0plasma banding unit.<\/p>\n
