This standard specifies carbon steel wire rod, patented cold drawn steel wire and springs (high duty underground wire) for aerospace purposes.
Wire conforming to this specification is suitable for springs that are subject to exacting service conditions. It is not suitable for high duty dynamically stressed springs, for which hard drawn wire conforming to BS 2S 202 ought to be used.
