Introduction

This Part is directed towards service providers and
manufacturers intending to build or deploy equipment for use in the
Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) internal network. This Part
does not directly impact CDPD subscribers or Mobile End System
(M-ES)manufacturers.

This Part assumes that the reader is familiar with CDPD in
general, as presented in [IS-732-100].

In order to properly function, the CDPD Network needs
information about CDPD subscribers such as:

• The subscriber's identity

• Limitations Imposed on the subscriber

• End Systems associated with the subscriber

• Subscriber's billing status

• Accounting information associated with the subscriber.

The CDPD Subscriber Directory Profile is used for:

• Controlling the subscriber's access to CDPD resources

The CDPDSUBSCRIBERSERVICEFEATURES realizes the information
object for a CDPD subscriber. This information may be used to
control the subscriber's access to CDPD resources. Support of
CDPDSUBSCRIBERSERVICEFEATURES is not mandatory but is recommended.
Other mechanisms may be used to implement a Service Provider's
access control policies.

• Providing information to assist realization of CDPD Support
Services

THE CDPDSUBSCRIBERSUPPORTINFO realizes the information object
needed to support CDPD accounting and location services. Support of
CDPDSUBSCRIBERSUPPORTINFO is not mandatory but is recommended. [IS-
732-630] specifies how this information is used to support CDPD
accounting.

This Part enumerates the specific features of Directory User
Agents (DUA) and Directory System Agents (DSA) that may be used for
this particular application of Directory Services. General
requirements for CDPD DUAs and DSAs are defined in Part 1013.

The information about the CDPD subscriber is maintained in the
CDPD Directory. DUA implementations conforming to the CDPD
Subscriber Profile may be used to access the CDPD subscriber
information.
