Similarity rules are used to identify<br \/>\nthe form of the variables used in the process of correlation.<\/p>\n<p>The aircraft used to obtain the drag measurements is a heavy,<br \/>\nsubsonic, low-level attack type powered by two side-mounted<br \/>\nlow-bypass-ratio turbo-fan engines (fixed geometry intakes). An<br \/>\noutline of the flight-testing from which the data were drawn is<br \/>\nincluded. The flight-tests formed part of a programme to determine<br \/>\nthe changes in lift, drag, pitching moment and downwash induced by<br \/>\nfitting a range of stores under the wing considered. Measurements<br \/>\nwere taken at eleven Mach numbers.<\/p>\n<p>An equation for drag coefficient, <i>C<sub>D<\/sub><\/i> \u00a0,<br \/>\nis derived in terms of a chosen similarity function using these<br \/>\ndata. The equation contains three independent unknowns, all of<br \/>\nwhich are correlated by a similarity parameter.
