ESDU 70011 presents data for the lift-curve slope and
\naerodynamic centre position for wings with straight leading- and
\ntrailing-edges and streamwise tips in subsonic flow. The data were
\nderived from lifting-surface theory and are presented in carpet
\nform for \u00dfA up to 12,
\nAtan?
\n\u00bd<\/sub> up to 6 and taper ratio (?<\/span>) from 0
\nto 1, where A is aspect ratio, \u00df is (1 \u2013
\nM<\/i>2<\/sup>)\u00bd<\/sup> where M<\/i> is Mach
\nnumber, and
\n?
\n\u00bd<\/sub> is the half-chord sweep. The data can be applied to other
\nthan straight-tapered planforms by means of the equivalent wing
\nplanform concept (ESDU 76003 or ESDU 76015). Comparisons with a
\nwide range of test data indicate that the lift-curve slope of wings
\non wing-body combinations is predicted to within about 5% and that
\naerodynamic centre position is predicted generally to within 0.03
\nof the aerodynamic mean chord.<\/p>\n

A computer program of the method (ESDUpac A7011) is provided.
\nThe program, which includes an extension to cover wings with
\nmodestly swept forward half-chord lines, can be run online at
\nesdu.com.<\/p>\n

For information, an improved form of the Helmbold-Diederich
\nequation for wing lift-curve slope is given which provides
\npredictions largely within \u00b12% of the values obtained from this
