This document provides the<br \/>\nbasic expectations of Enhanced Digital Access Communications<br \/>\nSystems, and outlines the organization of the family of documents.<br \/>\nThis document also serves as a foundation for the coherent<br \/>\ndevelopment of the remaining documents within the family of<br \/>\ndocuments. Additional and more specific information can be<br \/>\nreferenced in each of the corresponding documents within this<br \/>\nfamily.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scope of the Family of Documents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a group, the family of documents describe the Enhanced<br \/>\nDigital Access Communications System, inclusive of the equipment<br \/>\nrequirements which allow both compatibility and interoperability<br \/>\nbetween various systems and elements. These systems provide<br \/>\nadvanced digital land mobile radio services for private radio<br \/>\ncommunications, and services for industrial, SMR, federal, public<br \/>\nsafety and utility organizations, on all levels, including local,<br \/>\nstate and national. The family of documents will be backward<br \/>\ncompatible and interoperable with existing installed Enhanced<br \/>\nDigital Access Communications Systems (EDACS\u00ae)<sup>1<\/sup> per the<br \/>\ndefined technical definition of section 4. This document describes<br \/>\ntrunked systems utilizing digital signaling, digital voice, and<br \/>\nanalog voice for conventional mutual aid operation.<\/p>\n<p>This family of documents is applicable to Land Mobile equipment<br \/>\nlicensed under National Telecommunications And Information<br \/>\nAdministration (NTIA) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC)<br \/>\nrules and regulations. They are suitable for 12.5 kHz or 25 kHz<br \/>\nchannels and designed for VHF, UHF, 800 and 900 MHz frequency<br \/>\nbands.
