Supplementary protocol information is<br \/>\nincluded for two reasons: to help implementors better understand<br \/>\nCDPD protocols and to support the development of test suites for<br \/>\nthe protocols. These CDPD protocol abstract test suites are<br \/>\ndescribed in Part 900 through Part 999.<\/p>\n<p>In general, there are two types of supplementary protocol<br \/>\ninformation: information relative to the protocol specification and<br \/>\ninformation relative to a particular implementation of the<br \/>\nprotocol.<\/p>\n<p>Information relative to the protocol specification can take one<br \/>\nof two basic formats: transition state matrices and Specification<br \/>\nand Design Language (SDL) diagrams. The selection of the best<br \/>\nformat for a given protocol depends on the characteristics of that<br \/>\nprotocol; this selection is described in Part 900.<\/p>\n<p>In the following Parts, the transition state matrix approach has<br \/>\nbeen used to more fully define the CDPD MAC, MDLP, MNLP and MNRP<br \/>\nprotocols. In the event of any conflict\u2014either real or<br \/>\nperceived\u2014between this CDPD protocol supplementary information and<br \/>\nthe actual protocol definitions in Parts 402, 403, 501 and 507, the<br \/>\nconflict shall be resolved in favor of the actual protocol<br \/>\ndefinition.<\/p>\n<p>Information relative to a specific implementation of a protocol<br \/>\nis described via Protocol Implementation Conformance Statements<br \/>\n(PICSs). This information is presented via a questionnaire, known<br \/>\nas the PICS proforma.<\/p>\n<p>These proformas are presented in the following Parts for the<br \/>\nCDPD MAC, MDLP, MNLP and SNDCP protocols.
