This Standard specifies a methylene blue spectrophotometric method for the determination of sulfur in iron and steel.

The method is applicable to sulfur contents between 0.000 3 % (mlm) and 0.010 % (mlm).

However, niobium, silicon, tantalum and titanium interfere in the determination of sulfur.

Depending on the concentration of the interfering elements, the application ranges and test portion masses given in table 1 apply.

NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows:

ISO 10701: 1994 Steel and iron-Determination of sulfur content-Methylene blue spectrophotometric method (IDT)

The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISOI lEC Guide 21-1.
